Cyperus rotundus — sometimes called nutgrass — has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. What’s changed is that modern formulation science can now explain why it works, not just that it does.
The mechanism researchers point to is 5-alpha reductase inhibition. 5-alpha reductase is the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) — the primary hormone driving hair follicle activity in areas affected by regrowth. By working to inhibit that enzymatic process at the follicular level, Cyperus rotundus root extract is studied for its ability to gradually reduce the rate of regrowth with consistent use.
It’s also anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, which is why it does double duty in our formulas — calming skin that’s just been through hair removal, while working on regrowth beneath the surface.
You can find the full ingredient breakdown for both products, including Cyperus rotundus, on our Ingredients page.
